Concert Reflection: Nahko and Medicine For The People
“When people see some things as beautiful,
other things become ugly.
When people see some things as good,
other things become bad.
Being and non-being create each other.
Difficult and easy support each other.
Long and short define each other.
High and low depend on each other.
Before and after follow each other.
Therefore the Master
acts without doing anything
and teaches without saying anything.
Things arise and she lets them come;
things disappear and she lets them go.
She has but doesn’t possess,
acts but doesn’t expect.
When her work is done, she forgets it.
That is why it lasts forever.”
From Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu
Happy Monday Loves!! My soon-to-be freshman in high school son (gasp!) needed books for his English class, and the above quote is from one of them. I was super excited when the book arrived and began reading through it and particularly loved this teaching. My journey recently has been one of deepest surrender to Spirit, and this quote completely resonated with my soul. I also adore the fact that there is no male/female in Chinese writing, and the pronouns in the translations can be substituted either way to she or he. The translator of the book uses she just as often as he, and it is a beautiful reminder that the Master is EACH OF US. We are the divine in human form and nothing less. Each of our lives are destined to be followed into our destiny if we so choose, and in order to become the ultimate flow we must remember how to let go, trust, surrender, and Love.
I mentioned to you Friday I was heading to a concert of my favorite musician Nahko, and I have had the intention for some time to hang out with the guys in the band. In full transparency, up until recently I wanted to hang with them to be a “groupie” and get a peak at the behind-the-scenes action. But a little while back, as I continued to deepen into myself and do my inner work, my intention of meeting them moved into sharing love and appreciation with them for all they do and what they share and create for all of us to enjoy. However I could be of service to them, that is what I most deeply wanted to share. And so it goes that through a series of beautiful, divine orchestration, I met most of the band after the show and the guitar player made me a handmade set list and had all the members of the band sign it for me. I was able to give them heart-centered love, appreciation, and was fully grounded and present with myself throughout the process. It was fun, loving, joyful, and beyond all expectations. This all was able to happen once I let go of my need to control the outcome. No force of will was needed or trying to figure it out – it all just happened once I could fully surrender.
So my call to action to you as you start your week if you so choose is to meditate and reflect on what you can let go of and surrender into even more. Do you need to let go of expectations of how certain people act towards you? How about releasing the outcome of an intention you have and allow Spirit to take over for you? Or maybe you just need to trust what is coming through to you via the Divine? Life is wanting to give you exactly what you want – if it is for your highest and best. And just as Lao Tzu so beautifully tells us, when we compare, hang onto possessions, see anything as good or bad, we miss the mark. Love everything as it is.
Keep taking your steps forward immense Lights. Dance, sing, smile. Keep listening to the music of life. We will get there. We are Love. xo
